To all of you out there who are “disgusted” by the division in our country and do not see the purpose and unity of this weekend’s march;
To all of you out there who see marching in solidarity for human rights (including yours) as “pointless”;
To all of you out there criticizing your American sisters and brothers and American families for standing up for equal rights for every American citizen (including you);
To all of you out there who must criticize and disassociate yourselves from women metaphorically reclaiming their collective “pussy” from an elitist patriarchal culture:
To all of you out there I say your anger is displaced...
Be disgusted with those ignoring the problems of this country, not those highlighting its injustices.
Be disgusted with those who spew hate and lies, not those speaking their truth.
Be disgusted with those who are taking away your rights, not those fighting for them.
Be disgusted with those trying to obscure the facts, not those trying to reveal them.
Be disgusted with those working to disempower you, not those trying to empower you.
Be disgusted with those trying to take away control of your body and health, not those trying to give it back to you.
Be disgusted with those who shame women and their vaginas, not those acknowledging their sanctity.
Be disgusted with those who blame race and religion and sexuality and gender as political problems, not those who are judged and persecuted simply for being themselves.
Be disgusted with those so afraid of “the other” that they cannot see that they, too, are the other.
This march was not just for women. This march was for ALL of America, for every citizen who loves this country and wants to live in a state of equality, respect, and sustenance for all.
Because if each and every one of us is not free, is not equal, is not sustained, then neither will you be. #whyimarch
